Eye hospital marketing for cataract, LASIK and specialist eye care

Cataract patients and LASIK patients are different people, searching in different languages for different reasons. Each needs its own funnel.

Adserr provides eye hospital marketing for eye hospitals, eye clinics and ophthalmology departments in Kochi and across Kerala. Eye care splits into distinct procedure funnels: cataract surgery decided by elderly patients and their children, LASIK and refractive surgery chosen by young professionals, and chronic care such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and paediatric squint that depends on referrals and long-term trust. We build each funnel separately and keep claims about vision outcomes careful and honest.

How eye patients search and decide

Cataract. The patient is usually over 55 and the decision is often made by a son or daughter, sometimes from abroad. Searches look like "cataract surgery cost Kochi", "which lens is best for cataract" or Malayalam questions about "thimiram". Families compare surgeon experience, lens options, insurance and scheme coverage, and how quickly the patient can go home.

LASIK and refractive surgery. The patient is typically 20 to 40, often working in IT, aviation, defence recruitment or sport, and researches on their own. They search "LASIK cost", "SMILE vs LASIK", "am I eligible for LASIK" and watch YouTube explainers. Price matters, but fear of complications matters more.

Chronic and specialist care. Diabetic patients needing retina checks, glaucoma patients needing regular pressure checks, and parents worried about a child's squint or screen time usually arrive by referral from a physician, paediatrician or optometrist.

Routine eye tests and spectacles. Searched locally, decided on convenience, and often the doorway to everything else.

Marketing challenges for eye hospitals

  • Two audiences with nothing in common. A Facebook ad that works for a cataract patient's daughter will not work for a 26-year-old considering LASIK. Budgets and content must be split.
  • Lens and package confusion. Patients see wide price ranges for cataract surgery and suspect upselling. Clear explanation of lens types builds more trust than a single headline price.
  • Fear of eye surgery. Many people delay cataract and refractive surgery for years. Reassurance from a surgeon on video does more than any offer.
  • Optical chains and camps. Optical chains and free screening camps are often where people first get their eyes checked. Camps should be run for genuine screening, with clear referral for people who need care, not as a sales funnel (NMC guidelines, clause 8.1(x)).

Rules to respect in eye care marketing

  • Drugs and Magic Remedies Act, 1954: its schedule includes eye conditions such as cataract and glaucoma among those for which remedies must not be advertised as cures. Surgical services are a different matter, but avoid "cure" language and miracle-drop claims.
  • Consumer Protection Act and ASCI code: "spectacle-free guaranteed", "100% safe" and "painless, zero risk" are claims that are hard to substantiate.
  • NMC Guidelines on Ethical Advertising and Public Communication (6 October 2026): ophthalmologists shall not advertise success rates or patient numbers with claims such as "painless" or "100% success" (clause 8.1(iii)), and superiority claims need an objectively verifiable basis (clause 8.1(ix)).
  • No patient testimonials or before-and-after stories in promotion: the NMC's October 2026 guidelines restrict them for doctors, and patient consent alone does not make them acceptable (Explanation V and clauses 6.2 and 8.1(v)).
  • DPDP Act, 2023 for recall reminders and follow-up messages.

This is general guidance; check campaigns with your legal adviser.

What Adserr does for eye hospitals

  • Builds procedure pages for cataract, LASIK, retina, glaucoma and paediatric care through our hospital SEO work, so each ranks for its own searches.
  • Runs separate, compliant campaigns for each funnel through healthcare advertising, tracked to consultations and surgeries booked.
  • Produces surgeon explainers and "day of surgery" walkthroughs through medical video production.
  • Manages branch-level Maps profiles through Google Business Profile management.
  • Plans awareness days and screening camps as genuine public-health activity, with clear referral information for people who need care, rather than promotional offers (NMC guidelines, clauses 5.1 and 8.1(x)).

Eye departments inside multispecialty hospitals can be planned alongside other departments; see our hospital marketing approach.

Frequently asked questions

How do eye hospitals get more cataract patients?

Explain cataract surgery and lens options clearly in Malayalam, show your surgeons on video, and target the adult children who often make the decision. Accurate branch listings on Google Maps and clear reports for referring physicians also help. Keep screening camps separate from this: under the NMC's October 2026 guidelines they should be genuine public-health screening with written referral, not a way to fill surgery lists (clauses 5.1 and 8.1(x)).

Can an eye hospital advertise LASIK prices?

Yes, if the price is accurate and the ad makes clear what it covers and that eligibility depends on an examination. Avoid "spectacle-free guaranteed" claims, which are hard to substantiate.

Are free eye camps still worth running?

They can be, as genuine public-health screening with a proper referral process for anyone who needs care. The NMC's October 2026 guidelines bar free procedures and similar inducements that amount to soliciting patients (clause 8.1(x)) and say awareness activities must not solicit patients (clause 5.1), so avoid treating camps as a patient-acquisition funnel or judging them mainly by how many attendees became patients. Check camp publicity with your legal adviser.

Should LASIK and cataract marketing be separate?

Yes. The audiences, languages, channels and concerns are completely different. Mixing them in one campaign wastes budget and confuses both groups.

How much does eye hospital marketing cost?

It depends on how many procedure funnels and branches you promote, which channels you use, how much video and content you want each month, the languages involved and how contested your procedures are locally. Any ad spend is paid directly to Google or Meta. We send a written scope and quote after the free audit; see how our pricing works.

Do you work with optical stores attached to eye clinics?

We can include the optical side in local marketing, especially Google Business Profile and reviews. Our main focus remains the clinical services.
